Description

Andy Warhol: 21 pieces; including paintings, screenprints on plexiglass, hand-coloured screenprints, wallpaper and collage. Presented in cooperation with the Vancouver Art Gallery.

"Warhol chooses his subjects from the modern world; he paints movie stars, flowers and electric chairs in a detached way as if he were indifferent to them, yet Warhol is not simply using these subjects as vehicles. Somehow, Warhol's depiction seems appropriate to the subject and the times. His color is raw, his execution slapdash, and his strategy of repetition mindless, but it succeeds. He seems to succeed in spite of himself. He picks the right subject at the right time and paints them in the right way." --"Andy Warhol", from  Monday Magazine in Open Space Archives, Box 3, 1977: S5, Victoria, B.C.
