Description

The Most Beautiful Woman in Philo and Other Paintings

Artist: Jim Lindsay

Date: January 17 to February 5, 1977

Open Space presented an exhibition of works by local artist Jim Lindsay. Lindsay was trained at the Glasgow School of Art from 1962 to 1967. He moved to Canada in 1971 at which time he found the freedom to develop as an artist.

The work in this exhibition related directly to his travels in previous years. In some paintings the landscape took precedence; in others (as in the title piece) a woman came to the fore. In others there was a balance between the two as there was a balance between abstract elements and figurative elements in all of the paintings.

The work of Jim Lindsay along with Secession Gallery sponsored photographer Art Grice opened (with live music) January 17 at 8 p.m.

Burns Night with Jim Lindsay

Date: January 25, 1977

An evening of Scottish poetry and prose. The program was divided into two parts. The first devoted entirely to Burns and the second to the works of two Glasgow poets of the 1970s.

Noted artist, scholar, raconteur and native of Glasgow, Lindsay, brought life to Scotland's most beloved son with his spirited rendering of selections from Burns' poems and letters. Burns himself needed no introduction.
