Description

Sid Barron: Paintings and cartoons by this Victoria artist.

The exhibition presented twenty paintings, done over the previous three years. As a special extra, the cartoons that Sid became so well known for in the Victoria Times, The Toronto Star and the Calgary Albertan, were on sale in the gallery. Over 800 original cartoon panels, done on showcard, were offered on a first come first serve basis. Both cartoons and paintings were priced to sell! A percentage commission from the sale went to benefit the Open Space Building fund, specifically to make roof repairs.

Sid Barron was born in Toronto in 1917, and shortly after his family moved to Victoria. From 1941, for over 20 years, Sid worked as a commercial artist. In 1958 he became the cartoonist for the Victoria Times. Three years later Side went to work in Toronto.

Sid Barron has always been a serious painter, having shows in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and in 1973, the Art Gallery of Greater Victoria
