Elder-in Residence Program

The Elder in Residence and Apprentice program are a way for Open Space to abide by its
commitment to upholding Indigenous values and incorporating principles of Indigenous
governance into its operations. As such it the program endeavours to:
● Give authority to Indigenous voices in the institution.
● Support the Indigenous arts community.
● Incorporate Indigenous protocols and practices into the operations of Open Space.
● Facilitate the development and transmission of knowledge amongst the Indigenous arts
community

‘Namgis Elder Gerry Ambers has been approached to become Open Space’s first Elder in
Residence. Gerry has a long history with Open Space, as a board member, an exhibiting artist
and a community leader.
