Being performed on Monday, August 21 at Open Space and Friday, August 25 at UVIC is one of the highlights of this year’s Festival, the concert, Narratives of Memory. Developed for the summer field-school entitled,“Narratives of Memory, Migration, and Xenophobia in the European Union and Canada”, which took place at sites of traumatic memory, the concert presents three newly commissioned works from composers Zaid Jabri (Syria), Andrea Szigetvári (Hungary) and Dániel Péter Biró for three historical sites: the Ravensbrück Memorial Site, Ravensbrück Germany, the Budapest Keleti Train Station, Budapest Hungary Camp des Milles, Aix-en-Provence, France.
Syrian composer Zaid Jabri writes about his new piece: “Music is not only in the festivals of contemporary music, in a purely scientific role far away from the consciousness of people but rather as a social vehicle for reflection and change.Tsilumos Ensemble, David Shively,
