Victoria-based visual artist Anne Steves has been researching the traditional art of string figures as a means of communication. During her residency last fall at Open Space in conjunction with Flask Publishing, Steves explored the narrative and non-narrative threads between storytelling, drawing, and booking making. The result is Spine, a limited edition artist book.
Join Steves on Saturday, April 25, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. for the launch of Spine. Steves will be on hand to talk about her research, the artist book process and how this project fits into her broader practice of working with textiles, drawing and collage. Steves has invited local educator Michele Hibbins to join her to give a demonstration of string figure story telling.
Spine will be presented as part of the Guest House program of events hosted by Open Space during April and May, 2015. Please visit www.openspace.ca/GuestHouse for more information.
