On Saturday, February 1, 2014, at 7:00 p.m., Vancouver’s Ethos Collective returns to Open Space for a concert of music primarily notated as graphic scores. In conjunction with the exhibition Concrete Scores, the works performed often look more like drawings than traditional musical notation. This concert includes Canadian composers who have been exploring this form of notation, as well as improvisations by the Ethos Collective.
Concrete Scores is an exhibition exploring the interactions between media. This concert includes a reading of visual art as a musical score.
Since their inception in 2011, the Ethos Collective has performed their signature blend of improvisations and new works in the Vancouver area, including performances at the Orpheum Annex, Vancouver Art Gallery, and Western Front and presentations by the Redshift Music Society, Vancouver New Music, and UBC School of Music. This improvisatory new music ensemble goes beyond the genre of classical contemporary music to explore new musical realms.Ethos Collective: Samantha Fu (flute), Stefan Hintersteininger (cello), Kathryn Emiko Lee (violin), Chris Morano (piano), Katie Rife (percussion),Timothy Van Cleave (percussion)
