On October 24 at 6 p.m., Open Space will be presenting the second iteration of the Victoria Score Reading Club. Earlier this year, Open Space and the Canadian Music Centre BC Region paired up to bring the CMC’s very popular Score Reading Club to Victoria. The Score Reading Club is a series featuring influential works by accomplished composers. In each session, three presenters offer in-depth looks at musical works of their choice. The works are presented live or recorded and discussed, revealing new insights into the works.
The Victoria Score Reading Club presenters will be saxophonist Erik Abbink, composer and University of Victoria doctoral candidate Annette Brosin, and guitarist and emerging composer Stefan Maier.
This evening’s presentations represent a European tour of contemporary music, touching down in The Netherlands, Germany and Italy. Erik Abbink will perform and present Jacob ter Veldhuis’ Believer for baritone saxophone and boom box. Annette Brosin will discuss Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s Stille und Umkehr, and Stefan Maier will share with us the music of Pierluigi Billone.
