Description
Multidisciplinary artist, musician, and curator Paul Walde will discuss instrument making as a site for compositional and artistic practice on Saturday afternoon, April 7, at 2:00 p.m. Starting with John Cage’s deconstruction of all aspects of the composed piece, from a departure from fixed notation (the role of the composer), the role of the audience, the role of the performer (also in indeterminate works), and the instrument (the prepared piano), Walde will trace the work of other composers who have invented instruments to further their art. Walde is one of several Victoria-based artists, musicians, and computer engineers who assisted in Trimpin to fabricate and install his work (Canon X + 4:33 = 100), which is at Open Space until April 28. Everyone is welcome. Admission by donation. Conversation-inducing refreshments will be available.
