Description
Artist Zoë Kreye (Berlin) returns to Victoria to launch KOCA Inn, a book documenting an experimental urban space that existed in Weimar, Germany in July 2009. Located at the city's main intersection, the Inn was a self-organized open platform for activities, workshops and events. It became a living organism giving and getting impulses of vitality to and from Weimar’s public life.

Kreye will discuss her involvement as a Canadian artist working abroad and present the KOCA Inn book/projects to spark a public discussion about the present and future of public space in Victoria. Specifically addressing:
- Who controls public space?
- Temporary interventions: can brief encounters have an impact?
- Can art bend the boundaries of what is accepted in public life? If art takes the roles of sparking change, who carries it on?
- Making links: which lobbies are involved and what does the future hold?
- Tools for organizing: informal economies, citizen occupation, politics of aesthetics
