Donato Mancini is a Vancouver-based writer, composer, and media artist. Mancini gave a reading from his latest collection of poetry, Ligatures (New Star Books, 2005), which was recently shortlisted by the 2006 ReLit Awards. In a series of interrelated suites, Donato Mancini’s début collection revisits, rearticulates, and remixes key concepts behind the most radical writing experiments of the twentieth century: the use of linguistic restrictions to generate text, the incorporation of found elements, and the typographical exploration of the visual properties of letters.
“Ligatures is a splendid read, a wake-up
call to both the eyes and the brain.”
Steve McCaffery, Apollinaire’s Bookshoppe
Glitch artist Nuthre (“nous-tres”), fresh from a European tour, completed the evening with experimental electronica ranging from abstract explorations of pop music and Saskatchewan field recordings to embarrassingly catchy, melodically-effusive metro-dork-outs, among other rhythmically challenging sounds.
