of its own accord 2005 brought a diverse range of the new music genre to Victoria. It presented performers, composers, and sound artists who are recognized internationally and locally and are considered essential to the to the development of non-traditional and experimental music. The Open Space New Music Program maintains a balance between improvised (Paul Plimley/Tommy Babin) and pre-composed music (Kennith Newby), with collaborations (Eugene Chadbourne & Scott Henderson) and solo works (Ikue Mori) drifting through technologically and non technologically focused works.
of its own accord’s objective was to meet the needs of the local community and touring musicians by aknowledging the diverse boundaries that are explored by multidisciplinary artists, perpetuating forward motion. With planned workshops (The Nihilist Spasm Band), artists talks, residency installations (Ellen Fullman), and collaborations with other centres and venues, of its own accord recognized the need to develop and support the varied direction of new music.
